Any Racial Progress In Latin Media Since 2020?
It’s the last day of #LatinxHeritageMonth And i’ve been asked frequently in the past 30 days if “i’ve seen any progress compared to this time last year” &what I see, in ***my*** professional space is a lot of questions being asked which is nice &a TON of performative solidarity.

Instead of highlighting issues, solutions and pathways to those solutions.

And the biggest disconnect of all, is not collaborating with those who’ve done this work of deconstructing Latinidad for DECADES. Racism via Latinidad isnt new, its a new problem for you*** /2
Think about that for a sec. For YEARS this wasn’t a problem for your lived experience. This speaks volumes as to a. How white your space is b. How privileged you are.

Having privilege doesn’t mean you don’t go through anything difficult–It means systematically u do not have to suffer the woes of yts trying to exclude u, gaslight u, tokenize u, not pay* u, all while wanting bits n pieces of u to sell while deeming you “unmarketable” “difficult”

Or my favorite one, “angry”

Fave bc it makes me laugh. Of course people are angry they’re exhausted with the aforementioned.
Interrogating whiteness is uncomfortable, but literally doing so, to a bigger end, saves lives. Now I implore you to not conflate that with the necessity for white saviors because we DO NOT need that 1/
— reggaetonconlagata.com (@ReggaetonXGata) October 15, 2021
but instead to interrogate that whiteness via CRT especially by & with those doing grassroots work. It is not easy—but I promise you whats even harder are the consequences of racism for Black Latinos via You un/knowingly gatekeeping, tokenizing, repeated cycles, etc
— reggaetonconlagata.com (@ReggaetonXGata) October 15, 2021
I’ve seen a lot not just the past 30 days but the past year how some* ppl go out of their way to protect others to distance themselves from these conversations in order to protect their white guilt. Speaks volumes to the lack of recognition of their ytness &racism they empower.
— reggaetonconlagata.com (@ReggaetonXGata) October 15, 2021
White guilt is nothing in comparison to the literal disenfranchisement of Black people. YOU will literally be ok, great even, versus the financial, physical and mental consequences that racism has for Black Latinos.

@AfroLatinoTrav should have their seats filled every semester. Put that guilt to the side, register & learn something. ✨

There are a ton of Black Latinx doing the work. Quote tweet with your fave orgs to highlight them.

And if you are interested in introducing CRT to your corporate space in a manner that is a lot more intimate, NDAs and all, contact @eluminamedia via info@eluminamedia.com

Shoutout to the allies who HAVE been questioning their positionality, questioning policies, introducing pathways that allow Black Latinos to empower ourselves* aka not trying to “save” us—all while not looking for stars 1/

Because its not about recognition its about equity, dignity, respect.
