Cochinae Is The Perreo I’ve Been Longing For
From El Caribe to New York City and beyond, Reggaeton has left its musical imprint around the world, and Cochinae Remix is no exception. Known for its vulgar lyrics in the 2000s and Risque displays in music videos that prompted an island wide ban in Puerto Rico in an effort to “save the youth” perreo is infamously known to be for the grown and sexy.
Often critiqued for being “degradable” towards women, and “responsible for influencing harmful attitudes” rather than a reflection of life itself, Perreo at one of its most vulnerable moments in Reggaeton history was even called pornographic, so how does a genre evolve from there? The truth is, All genres of music are guilty of these themes, but Black rooted genres tend to get hit with the accusations and campaigns the hardest. Cochinae, a song originally made by Julianno Sosa and King Savvage of Chile is a raunchy celebration of sexual fantasy, and i love it.
A successful celebration of intercourse between consenting adults, the lyrics ranges from the fantasizing of what one partner may one from the other, to how one may reward the other for increasing the shared ‘puteria’. Honoring the 2000s ‘Reggaeton Sex’ sound, Cochinae boasts a very simple yet cleverly seductive instrumentation mirroring the bass, and drum patterns that DJ Blass explained “Has the metaphorical ability to transport people from the nightclub to the bed while dancing.” Cochinae was done with such keenness of the originally caribbean sound that Reggaeton Legend Ñengo flow joined the track in it’s remix along with Colombian rising star Ryan Castro. Cochinae and it’s remix is bold, erotic, and I couldn’t be happier that it exists.
